There are reports that at least one dead and several people hospitalised after eating poisoned food at Shebra Mosque in Goderich.

Witnesses at the scene claimed the poisoned food was brought by an unidentified philanthropist for people to break their fast. A few minutes after they ate the food, 4-year-old Mohamed Koroma and others complained of discomfort. The boy later died while the remaining are believed to be battling for their lives at the Emergency Medical Centre for treatment.

According to report, the mother of the 4-year-old victim, Fatmata Koroma said her son was well before he ate the food at the mosque. She added that the child only complained of feeling unwell after eating the food.

The Imam together with some other elders have been detained by the police while assisting them with investigation.

It is a norm for Muslims in Sierra Leone to break fast at mosques with food provided by philanthropists. However, the latest event has left some doubts in the minds of some worshippers with one suggesting to Sierraloaded that philanthropists must eat from the food they bring to mosques.
