Four people were seriously injured in a late-night accident on Saturday near Makeni.
A blue car traveling from Freetown to Makeni, overloaded with zinc sheets and four occupants (including the driver), veered off the road after a rear tire detached.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a palm tree. Police and members of the Makeni Drivers Union rushed the injured to the Makeni government hospital.
A woman sustained double fractures in her foot and a broken hand. The man seated next to her also suffered a broken hand. Both were transferred to Masanga Hospital in Tonkolili District for specialized bone care. According to a doctor there, they are currently undergoing treatment and responding well.
Two other passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated and released from the Makeni hospital.
The car’s cargo of zinc sheets is being held by traffic police at the Rogbaneh police station as they investigate the accident.
