Abubakarr Sesay, Alpha Kamara, Dauda Kelfala Sesay, and Abubakarr Kabia on Thursday, 9th October 2025, made their first appearance before Principal Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 for the alleged robbery of two Indian nationals of gold and assorted properties valued at over eight hundred thousand new Leones.
The defendants were arraigned on ten counts of Conspiracy contrary to law and Robbery with aggravation contrary to Section 23(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916, as repealed and replaced by Section 1 of the Schedule of the Death Penalty Act 2022 (Act No. 6 of 2022).
According to the indictment, the accused, between 1st and 31st May 2025 at Magburaka Town, conspired together to commit robbery with aggravation.
It is further alleged that, during the same period, the defendants while armed with a pistol robbed Mukesh Ray of thirty thousand Indian Rupees (equivalent to NLe 8,310), thirty thousand United States Dollars (equivalent to NLe 723,000), a quantity of gold, six hundred and sixty-five Euros (equivalent to NLe 16,758), and other valuable items, all totaling NLe 854,291, property of Mukesh Ray.
No plea was taken when the charges were read and explained to the defendants.
The accused persons were unrepresented in court, and therefore no bail application was made on their behalf.
Magistrate Jah ordered that all four defendants be remanded at the Pademba Road Correctional Facility in Freetown until 16th October 2025, when the matter will continue.
