A four-storey building has collapsed in Freetown.

BBC journalist Umaru Fofona reports that the building which was located at SS Camp in the hills above Freetown tragically collapsed last night during heavy downpours.

Community volunteers heroically used their bare hands throughout the night in a desperate attempt to rescue those trapped under the rubble. Their tireless efforts continue this morning, with the additional support of an excavator brought in to assist.

One volunteer, Inspector Lamish, revealed that two people have been successfully rescued, with a third currently being pulled out. Sadly, at least seven individuals are believed to be still trapped.

John Rogers, the deputy director of the disaster management agency, confirmed their presence at the scene. They are working collaboratively alongside the army, police, and Red Cross in the ongoing rescue operation.

No deaths have been confirmed as of yet.
