A devastating building collapse has just occurred at Shell New Road in Freetown, leaving many people trapped beneath the rubble.
The four-story structure, which housed both residential apartments and ground-floor shops, suddenly gave way earlier today. Eyewitnesses report hearing a loud crash as the building came down, engulfing numerous occupants and shopkeepers inside.
At the time of this report, emergency response teams from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and the Freetown City Council have not yet arrived at the scene. Bystanders and local community members are attempting to assist trapped victims with makeshift tools, but the situation remains dire.
The cause of the collapse is still unknown, and authorities have not yet issued a statement on the disaster.
The condition of those trapped remains unclear, and it is feared that the number of casualties may rise if rescue operations are delayed further.
This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
Stay tuned for further details.

You are very right and this is a problem. The hills are getting their revenge. We are cutting down trees and building everywhere and we are building on hills without the proper engineering. Unlike Nigeria, we did not have buildings collapsing, but now it is becoming a common occurence. I hope the government can have the courage to stop this.
