After eleven years of delays, the Freetown East Regional Police Headquarters is set to officially open, marking a significant milestone for the local policing partnership.
The project was initiated by the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) and the then-Regional Commander for Freetown East, Assistant Inspector General of Police Memunatu Konteh Jalloh, following discussions with key LPPB members, including the current National Security General, Mr. Melbourne Green.
The headquarters, which has received support from business entities in the eastern part of Freetown, will serve the general public. In 2022, upon his appointment as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu prioritized the revival of infrastructural developments within the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), with a focus on completing the long-stalled Freetown East Regional Police Headquarters.
Recognizing donor dissatisfaction over the prolonged inactivity despite their contributions, IGP Sellu took on the challenge to ensure the project’s completion. He appointed Chief Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Kpulun, the Local Unit Commander for Harbour Division, as the facilitator for the project.
two years later, the building has been completed and is set to officially open for use, promising enhanced policing services in the region and renewed confidence among community stakeholders.
