The Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh has said that Freetown will have a new 2,000-capacity stadium close to the National Stadium.
The minister admitted that the new mini stadium will be constructed by Gangzo Construction Investment Group Corporation (GCIGC), the same firm that is contracted to renovate the main stadium.
Minister Nyelenkeh said that the new stadium’s construction is part of the agreement signed by the government and the People’s Republic of China. He added that the new stadium and renovation work will be done in 2024.
The Chinese Ambassador, Wang Qing said that the new mini stadium will be a modern type with electronic facilities equivalent to international standards. He furthered that there are also plans for the installation of plastic chairs in the 36,000 main stadia.
Renovation work started last year on the National Stadium by a Chinese company and will expect to be ready by next year.

The stadium also plays host to several indoor and outdoor sports like Basketball, Volley Ball and Athletics among others sports.
