A Liberian national, Ainab Donzo, who works as a hairdresser, is currently in detention for allegedly possessing and transporting cocaine without legal authorizationp.
Donzo was apprehended on October 13, 2024, in Sorogbama Chiefdom, Jendema, located in Pujehun Province. During the arrest, authorities reportedly found her in possession of four compressed parcels of cocaine.
She appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, where she was charged with two offenses under the National Drug Control Act of 2008. The first charge alleges possession of a prohibited drug without lawful authority, as stipulated under Section 8(a) of the Act. The second charge accuses her of transporting prohibited drugs without legal authorization, in violation of Section 7(b).
When the charges were presented in court, Donzo did not enter a plea. The State prosecutor, I. K., requested an adjournment to allow time for further consultations with witnesses and proper case preparation.
Magistrate Kekura denied bail, emphasizing the gravity of the allegations. Donzo has been remanded at the female correctional center in Freetown, and the case has been adjourned for a future hearing as investigations continue.
