Healthcare Without Borders, a subsidiary of the Thaakat Foundation, has proudly inaugurated the Crimson Clinic and Crimson School, marking a significant boost to healthcare and education in one of Sierra Leone’s most underserved regions
This transformative initiative features a newly constructed Maternal and Child Health Post (MCHP) alongside a modern six-classroom school building, marking the organization’s third school and fourth health center in the country.
The inauguration ceremony, held on 23 November 2024 was a momentous occasion attended by government officials, chiefdom authorities, local residents, and media representatives.
The event was made possible through the generosity of the Bobear Family, who funded the clinic and school in memory of their beloved Uncle Dick.
Professor Bashiru Koroma, Vice Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, chaired the event and commended Healthcare Without Borders for its unwavering commitment to uplifting lives in the Pujehun District.
“This project is not just about buildings; it’s about creating a sustainable future for our children and families,” he remarked.
Program Manager Foday Jaward highlighted the crucial impact of the new facilities on the community. The Crimson Clinic is equipped to provide essential maternal care, child immunizations, and basic health services aimed at significantly reducing maternal and child mortality rates.
Jaward emphasized that the clinic’s operational focus on comprehensive prenatal and postnatal care will foster safer pregnancies and healthier outcomes for mothers and infants alike.
The Crimson School’s six-classroom structure is designed to accommodate hundreds of students from Helebu Pejeh and nearby communities.
By alleviating issues such as overcrowded classrooms and long travel distances, the new school provides a conducive learning environment that empowers students to pursue their educational aspirations.
Philip Saffa Momoh, Executive Director of Healthcare Without Borders, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to holistic community development.
“Access to quality healthcare and education is fundamental to breaking the cycle of poverty. These facilities represent hope and empowerment for the people of Helebu Pejeh,” he stated emphatically.
In his remarks, Sahr Emmanuel Yambasu, Chief Administrator of the Pujehun District Council, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the council. He stressed the importance of continued collaboration among stakeholders and called on community members to actively support ongoing development initiatives.
Paramount Chief PC Sheku Abdulkadiru Monyaba Koroma described the inauguration as a “dream come true” for the community, emphasizing the critical role the new clinic and school will play in shaping a brighter future for Helebu Pejeh.
The ceremony concluded with vibrant cultural performances and a symbolic ribbon-cutting, marking a significant milestone for the Helebu Pejeh community and celebrating the enduring generosity of the Bobear family.
This landmark project not only addresses immediate healthcare and educational needs but also sets a foundation for long-term community development, ensuring a healthier and more educated future for generations to come.
