Residents of Calaba Town, particularly around Tamba and Sesay Lane, are raising serious alarm over what they describe as an open and thriving hub for the sale and use of kush, a dangerous illicit substance increasingly affecting communities across Sierra Leone.

The issue came to light after a concerned visitor, who had gone to see his brother in the Tamba area, stumbled upon a disturbing scene. According to the eyewitness, what initially appeared to be a gathering resembling a funeral turned out to be something far more troubling.

”I asked if it was a funeral,” the man recounted. ”But someone told me no-this is where people come to buy kush.”

The man, shocked by the revelation, secretly recorded footage of the area, capturing what he described as a constant flow of individuals entering and leaving the compound, allegedly to purchase the substance.

Further inquiries from the visitor revealed that the compound is reportedly owned by a man identified as Sheikh, who residents claim has allowed the space to be used as a base for kush trading.

Even more concerning are allegations of weak law enforcement intervention. Community members claim that the matter has been reported multiple times to the police in Calaba Town. However, they allege that enforcement efforts have been ineffective.

”Just two days ago, the police came and arrested someone selling kush,” one resident said. ”But he bribed them and was released within five minutes.”

These claims, if verified, raise serious questions about accountability and the effectiveness of local enforcement in tackling the growing drug crisis.

Residents say the situation is spiraling out of control, with young people being the most affected. Many are now calling for urgent intervention from higher authorities, including national security agencies and the central government.

The community is appealing for immediate action to shut down the alleged drug hub and restore safety to the area.
