The Ministry Of Information And Communications in a bid to get first-hand information has on the 21st of February 2023 evoked a technical team to embark on a nationwide monitoring and evaluation of the National Fiber Backbone Phase 2 Project.
The visiting sites cut across the different districts from Kailahun, Kenema, Kono, Bonthe, Bo, Pujehun, Moyamba, Koinadugu, Portloko, Makeni and Kabala respectively.
The exercise is targeted on a timeline spanning from the 21st February 2023 to the 2nd March 2023 and is geared towards the acceptance of the project nationwide as well as getting total confidence on the operations in different districts respectively.
Referencing statements from the President in 2018 on a promise to enhance broadband access across the country improve rural telecommunications and create customer choice and affordability, the team believed in the actualization of the promise as constituted by the team members.
It was gathered that on 2nd September 2019, the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance secured a loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of China for the construction of the National Fiber Backbone Phase 2 Project which is been practicalized currently and noted that the contractors of the said project have completed the deployment of the infrastructure and the project is at the final stages of completion.
