The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu has endorsed the construction of a Police Station in Peje West Chiefdom in Kainlahun District, Eastern Region of Sierra Leone.
The people of Peje West Chiefdom have for a very long time requested for the construction and run of a Police Station in the Chiefdom Head Quarter Town called Bunumbu, due to the different developmental activities taking place in conjunction with the prevention future crime. Bunumbu Town also hosts one of the campuses of the Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone for which many people believe that, there is need for a functional Police Station.
IGP William Fayia Sellu said that the town is a very big one now that actually needs the presence of a Police Station as it is eligible to play a host and that the issues within the Chiefdom also calls for more security personnel to control certain things and maintain the peaceful cohesion amongst the people.
He made mention of the challenges faced by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) which has slow down the process for quite a long time now as well as the Elections fast approaching and the SLP needs to be on their guard to ensure efficient and effective security.
Making the confirmation he said, for a start there would be an urge for the provision of a temporal accommodation for the personnel while the construction continues. He assured the delegation present of a full support to the project which may soon be reality.
In his statement, the Paramount Chief of Peje West Chiefdom, Dr. Shamsu Mustapha disclosed that, they have secured funding for the rehabilitation of the Eastern Technical University Campus and the construction of a Police Station will simultaneously be a great development for the Chiefdom and the District at large.
To ensure that the work is done with ease as well as their determination for the said Police Station, he furthered that, they have set aside three acres of land for the construction of the Police Station and barracks. He assured the IG that a temporal accommodation to host the police personnel will be granted respectively.
