Sierra Leone’s Gender Minister, Isata Mahoi, delivered a powerful commitment to combat child abuse and uplift girls in Sierra Leone during a significant event commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, 2023.

In her passionate address, Minister Mahoi confronted the pressing challenges that girls in Sierra Leone face, such as sexual exploitation, teenage pregnancy, child marriage, harmful traditional practices, child labor, child trafficking, stigma, and domestic violence. She stressed the urgency of addressing these issues and emphasized the need for collective action.

The Minister underscored her collaboration with child protection partners and the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs to ensure the protection and empowerment of girls. She expressed her unwavering dedication to championing girls’ rights and raising awareness about all forms of abuse, with the ultimate goal of creating a brighter and more equitable future for girls across Sierra Leone.
