The presidential candidate of the Redeemers Camp, John Sullay Koroma contesting in the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, student union election has reportedly been arrested and sent to prison by police officers in Makeni, Northern Part of Sierra Leone.

According to reports, the University authorities influenced the arbitrary arrest and the selective justice against the students.

Mohamed Alie, a member of the General Student Union Movement said that they have several times written letters to the university administration stating that the tenure of office of the current student union government has ended and they should stage an election to elect a new government.

“We did that in February, and in a week later we receive a petition letter indicting some of our colleagues and charged them to appear before the Student Union Court,” he said.

Alie further noted that they later released a peaceful statement, stating clearly that they are staying calm because they want peace to rein as they have fought hard for the college to achieve a university status, adding they didn’t want to do anything to disrupt what they had fought so hard to achieve.

According to the General Student Movement representatives, the election was supposed to hold yesterday, but it was cancelled and they did not receive any information from the University administration.

He went to accuse some University authorities of partisan and are trying to sideline them not to take up governance.

They are openly coming out and accusing us of having an association of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party,” Alie asserted.

He further stated that they have not received any information from the University authorities while their colleagues are in custody, adding that they will not participate in the election as long as their colleagues are in custody.

“It is disheartening for the Dean of students of EBK university to leave the administration disciplinary committee and lock up students in a police cell. All in the influence of national politics,” the student noted.
