Kambia District is preparing to host World Food Day 2025 on 31st October in Sierra Leone.
On 26th September, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka visited Kambia to meet with local leaders, farmers, youth, women, civil society, and security officials to plan the event.
The visit included a traditional welcome by Hon. Paramount Chief Bai Farma Tass Bubu N’gbak IV and a venue assessment at the Kambia Mini Stadium. Deputy Secretary Mr. Kanneh chaired the meeting, emphasizing the need for collective action and inclusive planning.
Resident Minister North-West, Ambassador Bond Wurrie, urged chiefs to mobilize their communities and ensure committees included farmers, women, youth, and civil society. Chief Agricultural Officer Professor Abdulai Jalloh discussed Kambia’s agricultural potential and plans to upgrade SLARI’s Rokupr Rice Research Station for mangrove research. Deputy Chief Agricultural Officer Mr. Thullie explained why Kambia Mini Stadium was selected as the venue.
In his address, Minister Dr. Kpaka announced a $70 million project to support agriculture in Kambia and revealed that 10,000 bags of rice are already stocked at Kobia Agriculture Center for school feeding programs. Farmers were encouraged to showcase their produce during the event.
District Agricultural Officer Mr. Mohamed Turay confirmed the district’s readiness and observed a minute of silence for the late Mr. Brima Kargbo, former District Crops Officer.

- PC Alimamy Sorie Sankoh Yillah highlighted road problems affecting food distribution and pledged land for an Agricultural Veterinary Hub.
- The Civil Society Movement Secretary General called for transparent planning.
- Colonel Kemokai pledged military support for security and logistics.
- The NAFSL Coordinator confirmed farmers’ participation in produce exhibitions.
The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from Madam Isata Sesay, District Mammy Queen. Minister Kpaka and his team also visited Kobia Agriculture Center and the stadium to finalize preparations.
Kambia is now set to host World Food Day 2025, highlighting the district’s role in Sierra Leone’s agriculture and food security.
