Kambia joined the global chorus celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8th. This year’s theme, “Count Her In: Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,” resonated deeply in the district, according to Mrs. Asata IBS Kamara, Director of WoYER (Women’s Yearning for Equal Rights).
In an exclusive interview with Sieraloaded, Mrs. Kamara highlighted the aspirations of Kambia’s women: inclusivity in all aspects of development. Investing in women, she emphasized, is key to accelerating progress and building a sustainable future for the entire nation.
The commemoration wasn’t a solo effort. Partner organizations like Actionaid, Rainbow Initiatives, Trocaire, Shade, and Focus 100 joined forces, showcasing a united front for advancing women’s rights and empowerment in Kambia and beyond.
The event kicked off with a vibrant march. Women from all walks of life paraded through the streets, a powerful display of solidarity and unwavering determination in the fight for equality and justice.
Dressed in colorful attire and wielding banners emblazoned with empowering slogans, participants championed the cause of gender equality. They demanded increased representation and recognition of women’s contributions to society. Chants of empowerment filled the air, a collective voice demanding to be heard and valued.
