In a recent court appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba road court No.3 in Freetown, Audrey Raymonda John, a forty-year-old Kekeh rider, faced two charges related to assault. The allegations centered on an incident that occurred on May 29th, 2023, at PZ in the western area of Freetown.

The first charge accused John of assaulting Police Constable 17205 Ganda S while the officer was carrying out lawful duties. The second charge stated that John assaulted the same complainant, resulting in actual bodily harm. Assistant Superintendent of Police Isatu Baba Musa led the prosecution, supported by Sergeant 9527 Safie Conteh from the Criminal Investigation Department at Central Police Station.

Sergeant Conteh testified that upon the accused person’s arrest and arrival at the police station on May 29th, 2023, the complainant displayed severe injuries, including swollen eyes and bloodstains. Subsequently, medical requests were processed for both the complainant and the accused, forming a crucial part of the court records.

Investigation procedures followed, involving statements from witnesses, cautioning, and questioning of the accused in the local language, all documented and submitted as evidence in court. The defense counsel cross-examined the prosecution witnesses, probing into the details of the investigation and the witnesses involved.

As the prosecution concluded its case, the defense indicated intentions to present its case on the next adjourned date. However, Magistrate Bangura denied bail and scheduled further proceedings for December 4th, 2023. The accused denied the allegations, setting the stage for the continuation of the legal proceedings.
