The Local Unit Commander, Chief Superintendent Edison Vandi of the Kenema Police Division has on the 19th of April 2024, Inaugurated Thirty-Six (36) Chiefdom Policing Partnership Committees (CPPCs) and their Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs) in Wandor Chiefdom, Kenema District.
The SLP Media Unit revealed that, this is part of ensuring a crime-free environment, and to also demonstrate his ability to enhance accurate and effective community policing in the district, maintaining that, they were drawn from the Six sections of Wandor Chiefdom.
The Chairman, of CPPC Wandor Chiefdom, Mr. David Kamanda, assured both the people of Wandor Chiefdom and the police of their unwavering security services, and further beckon on his compatriots to serve the people diligently without fear or favor.
He informed the gathering that members of both the Executive of the CPPC and the CSV, were drawn from all the Six sections of the Chiefdom. He emphasized that those selected CSV and CPPC members would serve as the eye and the ear of the SLP in their various communities.
In his inaugural statement, Chief Superintendent Edison Vandi thanked the people of Wandor Chiefdom for embracing Community Policing in their Chiefdom. He noted that the committee’s primary objective would be to foster cooperation and communication between the police and the community, thereby ensuring that law enforcement efforts align with the specific needs and concerns of the local residents.
He said by establishing such a partnership, the committee’s aim to enhance trust, improve crime prevention, and strengthen the overall security infrastructure in Wandor Chiefdom would be met precisely.
He admonished the committee to be holding consultative meetings and community engagements regularly, which would help them understand community concerns, and to devise crime prevention strategies, and establish channels for reporting and addressing criminal activities effectively.
He emphasized that a collaborative approach in every security arrangement, empowers the community and allows them to actively participate in matters related to their safety.
He ended by entreating the CPPCs and CSVs not to use their status in support of, or against any ruling house in the forthcoming paramount chieftaincy election, noting that the formation of both entities was not for political gains.
The ceremony was viewed by the stakeholders and community people as a step in the right direction, as they expressed sincere gratitude to the SLP for taking the police to the doorstep of the Wandor community.
