At a family dialogue meeting held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in Bo City, Mayor Koba Musa called on members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) to unite and steer peace within the party.
The gathering, hosted at the mayor’s residence, brought together SLPP loyalists ranging from zonal to national representatives, with the aim of fostering party cohesion.
During his address, Mayor Koba Musa urged members to prioritize progress despite the challenges faced in service to the party. He highlighted that internal political tensions have the potential to erode party ideologies. Referring to his former rival, Swahilo Monyaba Koroma, as a “brother and friend,” the mayor recounted how their contest for the mayoral seat had threatened to cause divisions. However, they chose unity, a decision he believes should continue to guide the party moving forward.
Ibrahim S. Kabba, who chaired the meeting, explained that this dialogue was an initiative by the mayor to heal lingering divisions following the tensions during the previous mayoral elections. Hawa Campbell, the Deputy Mayor, also spoke at the event, stressing the importance of unity. She emphasized that only by working together can the SLPP succeed in Bo.
Some attendees expressed dissatisfaction with how they were treated after supporting rival candidates in the 2023 mayoral election but conveyed that they had forgiven the mayor and were prepared to collaborate. Mohammed Massaquoi, SLPP Regional Secretary for the South, encouraged party members to uphold the core values of the party and prepare for future political challenges.
