A group of Kono Women, believed to be traders, have taken to the streets of Kono after some government officials allegedly collected their voters slip and disappeared.
This incident occured today, the 7th December, 2022 at Koidu Town, the capital and largest city of the diamond-rich Kono District in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone.
They are seen matching and tapping gallons with sticks as they chant that they will not be able to vote because they have taken their cards away.
“We nor dae vote, den don take we card. we nor dae vote, den don take we card. We nor dae vote, den don take we card.” They chanted.
According to a source in kono, the said government officials allegedly offered to give these kono women micro-credit to help them start small businesses but should leave their voters slip as collateral for the said loan.
Unfortunately for these women, the said officials turned out to be fraudsters as they swiftly disappeared with their slips.
