On November 24, 2024, the Kunike Sanda Chiefdom Youth Council successfully held its third annual end-of-year cleaning exercise under the leadership of Youth Chairman Mohamed Samuel Kargbo.

The event brought the community together for a day of service, focusing on improving public hygiene and fostering communal responsibility.

The cleanup began early in the morning, with activities running from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Residents paused regular activities, including commercial operations such as okadas and shops, to participate in cleaning compounds and public spaces.

The event saw the involvement of over 70 volunteers who worked alongside the police to clean key areas, including the market (Luma place), hospital, police station, court, and sections of the highway.

For two months leading up to the event, the Youth Council sought support for cleaning supplies, reaching out to institutions and stakeholders.

Despite initial challenges, the Kunike Students Union (KUNSU) Transition Team and a prominent presidential aspirant, Mr. Elvis Fornah, stepped in with essential donations that ensured the event’s success.

Donations Included:

KUNSU Transition Team:

2 shovels, 1 pickaxe, 12 flashers, 3 head pans, and 1 bag of rice.

Mr. Elvis Fornah and Team:

1 wheelbarrow, 10 pairs of gloves, 1 rake, and 1 pickaxe.

The support received was met with immense gratitude from the Chiefdom community, particularly the youth, who praised the leadership qualities and generosity demonstrated by Mr. Fornah and the KUNSU Transition Team.

During the handover of supplies, the KUNSU Transition Team applauded the Youth Council’s efforts and highlighted the importance of education and youth engagement.

They emphasized their commitment to addressing challenges such as drug abuse, particularly the rising use of “kush,” and reinforced that KUNSU is a non-political organization open to all eligible members who have completed their WASCE exams.

The team also announced upcoming programs, including:

Dinner and Award Night – December 28

Inter-Chiefdom Peace Football Gala – December 26–28

General Elections – December 29

A Call for Continued Support

The Youth Council extended its appreciation to everyone who contributed to the event and encouraged further support from key stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and individuals. Chairman Mohamed Samuel Kargbo emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration to sustain such initiatives and implement future projects.

After the cleanup, participants enjoyed meals, energy drinks, and moments of camaraderie, capturing memories through photographs. The Chairman also provided transportation stipends and pain relief supplies for volunteers.
