Limkokwing University Welcomes Professor Alpha Tejan Wurie as New Chancellor

The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Sierra Leone, has officially welcomed its newly appointed Chancellor, Professor Alpha Tejan Wurie, during a ceremony held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

According to the university’s management and staff, the appointment of Professor Wurie marks a significant milestone in the institution’s journey toward fostering innovation, creative excellence, and youth empowerment in alignment with national development priorities and global academic standards.

They described Professor Wurie as a distinguished public servant and academic leader whose extensive experience in education and governance would provide strong strategic direction for the university.

In his acceptance statement, Professor Wurie expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work collaboratively with the university community to advance its mission.

“It is with deep appreciation and a profound sense of responsibility that I formally accept this appointment. I am truly honored by the confidence reposed in me, and I look forward to working collaboratively with the university community to uphold and advance the institution’s enduring values of integrity, excellence, and service,” he said.

Professor Alpha Tejan Wurie holds a PhD in Chemistry and has served Sierra Leone in various high-level capacities. From 1996 to 2007, he was Minister of Education under President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, and from 2018 to 2023, he served as Minister of Health and Sanitation under President Julius Maada Bio.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Professor Wurie was conferred the national honor of Commander of the Republic of Sierra Leone (CORSL) in 2006.

He was also made an Honorary Fellow of the Postgraduate School of Physicians and Surgeons in 2021 and received a Doctor of Science (DSc) in 2023 for his contributions to physical science, medical science, and tertiary education.

The management and staff of Limkokwing University expressed optimism that Professor Wurie’s visionary leadership will strengthen institutional governance, academic quality, and community engagement across all levels of the university.

“His visionary guidance is certain to inspire us as we strengthen our governance, academic quality, and community engagement. We are excited to embark on this new chapter under his stewardship,” the statement concluded.
