A dispute over an unpaid debt tragically escalated into a fatal stabbing on Friday night in Bonthe District, resulting in the death of a local retailer.

Authorities have identified the victim as Issa Thullah, who reportedly sold electronics. The suspect, Abubakar Kamara, has been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

According to reports from Salone Eyes Media, the incident occurred between 9 PM and 10 PM. Thullah and Kamara, who were friends, became embroiled in a heated argument at Thullah’s business premises. The disagreement stemmed from an outstanding debt for a battery Kamara had reportedly taken on credit from Thullah approximately a month prior.

Sources indicate that Thullah had repeatedly attempted to collect the debt from Kamara. On Friday night, following evening prayers, the two men met, and another argument ensued, reportedly escalating into a physical altercation that was broken up by an unidentified driver.

Witnesses reported that Kamara then left the scene, allegedly stating, “Wait for me, I’m coming.” He returned a short time later, allegedly armed with a knife, and stabbed Thullah in the left side of his chest. Thullah was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Thullah’s body was transported to Bo City for a post-mortem examination. However, the procedure has been delayed due to the victim’s family facing financial difficulties, according to reports. The body remains at the Bo mortuary while the family seeks support to cover the costs of the autopsy and transfer to Freetown for the procedure.
