Residents of Longo community in Kpanga Chiefdom, Pujehun District, have appealed for justice over a long-standing land dispute with neighboring Sawula village, a conflict they say has caused loss of lives and hardship for innocent families.

Speaking to our reporter, Lahai Tucker, a Longo resident, said the dispute dates back to 2019. He explained that disagreements over land ownership and boundaries have escalated over the years, resulting in violent clashes that led to deaths and multiple injuries.

Tucker claimed that repeated complaints and appeals to traditional authorities have not yielded fair resolutions. He alleged that some chiefs within Kpanga Chiefdom have treated the people of Longo unjustly, leaving the community feeling marginalized despite their efforts to seek peaceful solutions.

He further stated that attempts by the Paramount Chief of Kpanga Chiefdom, Chief Andrew Ibrahim Kaikai, to mediate the dispute were complicated by certain individuals, which undermined peace talks and worsened tensions.

Amie Kemokai, another resident, called on the government, human rights organizations, and relevant authorities to intervene urgently. She emphasized that women and children are the most affected, as many households have lost breadwinners and now face severe economic hardship.

Residents of Longo are appealing to the Ministry of Local Government, the Ministry of Lands, civil society organizations, and peace-building institutions to conduct an independent investigation into the dispute. They are also calling for dialogue, respect for traditional and legal land rights, and an end to intimidation and violence.
