Magistrate Hadiru Daboh of the Kenema Magistrate Court No. 1 on Monday, July 21, 2025, sentenced eighteen individuals to the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) in Kenema for frequenting, contrary to Section 49(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 1988.

According to court records, the individuals were apprehended on Monday, July 14, 2025, at a location allegedly used for smoking Cannabis sativa and other narcotic substances.

After the charge was read and explained to them, seventeen of the accused pleaded guilty and pleaded for mercy. They were each sentenced to three (3) months’ imprisonment at SLCS in Kenema.

One accused person, Prince Tarmoh, pleaded not guilty and has been remanded while the case was adjourned to a new date for further hearing.

It is alleged that most of the convicts are repeat offenders who were recently released following a previous prison court sitting in Kenema.

The case was prosecuted by Police Inspector Alphan Samuel Musa from the Legal and Justice Support Department, Kenema Division.

The eighteen accused were represented by defence counsel Peter Thomas Vincent.

In an interview with Inspector Musa, he stated that this sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar offences. He emphasised the police’s firm commitment to combating drug-related crimes within the city.
