Police in Mattru Jong have taken into custody a man accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer after he was discovered in full police uniform at the town’s main lorry park.

The suspect, identified as Mark Anthoney of 28 Hindowa Street, Bo No. 2, Bo City, was arrested on Thursday, 21st August 2025. Officers say he was allegedly posing as a serving member of the Sierra Leone Police when he was intercepted.

Confirming the incident, Chief Inspector Mohamed Sheriff, Operations Officer of Bonthe Division, said the man failed to provide credible proof of his status within the police force. Instead, he claimed to work for a private security firm he called the Sierra Leone Police Security Agency, reportedly located along the Bo–Kenema Highway and said to be managed by one Mr. Abdul Lumeh.

Investigations are ongoing to verify the suspect’s claims, and police have assured the public that the matter will be treated with the seriousness it deserves. The suspect is currently in custody assisting investigators.

Authorities further cautioned members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals posing as security personnel, stressing that impersonation undermines public trust and could facilitate criminal activity.
