In a disturbing incident in Mosorie village, Bai Largoh section, Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, violence erupted on the evening of June 18, 2024, over accusations of theft of firewood.

Musa Tarawally and Saidu Both reportedly attacked Jonathan Foi Jongopi at approximately 6:45 PM.According to witnesses, Jonathan was brutally assaulted, sustaining severe injuries to his head from a sharp object resembling a cutlass, and was repeatedly struck with a stick, resulting in fractures to his leg and hand.

Joseph Kailie, the Town Chief of Mosorie, informed police authorities that Jonathan is a newcomer to the area and had been recently seen in Mosorie. He credited the swift intervention of local youths for rescuing Jonathan from what could have been fatal consequences at the hands of Saidu and Musa.

Later that night, Jonathan, along with the alleged perpetrators, was taken to the Taiama Police Station. Sergeant Kawa and the Officer-in-Charge at Bunbuya immediately issued medical treatment for Jonathan upon arrival. Meanwhile, Saidu and Musa were detained in the Taiama Police cell pending further investigation.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents of Mosorie village, with community leaders calling for justice and condemning the use of violence over minor disputes.

Police authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and to ensure justice is served accordingly.
