Magistrate Toby of the Kambia Magistrate Court has committed the case of Mohamed Alpha Bashiru Fofanah, 35, to the High Court of Sierra Leone for trial, following allegations that he killed his co-worker, Brima Moray Kargbo, 51, during a violent altercation.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 25, 2025, at the residence shared by both men in Kambia. According to the prosecution, Fofanah and Kargbo employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security attached to the Kambia District office were involved in a heated dispute that escalated fatally.
During the preliminary investigation, the court reviewed several pieces of evidence, including an autopsy report confirming the cause of death. Magistrate Toby ruled that the prosecution had successfully established a prima facie case against the accused.
“Having considered the evidence and the autopsy report presented before this court, I am satisfied that a prima facie case has been established against the accused,” Magistrate Toby stated. “This matter is therefore committed to the High Court of Sierra Leone for trial during its next criminal session on a charge of manslaughter.”
He emphasized the gravity of the offense, noting that it is a serious criminal matter and therefore not bailable. Fofanah has been remanded in custody pending the commencement of his trial.
The case has sparked concern among residents of Kambia, who have voiced alarm over rising violent confrontations in the district. Community leaders and civil society groups are calling for increased efforts to promote peaceful conflict resolution and strengthen interpersonal relationships, particularly in workplace and residential settings.
As the matter moves to the High Court, public attention remains focused on the trial’s outcome and its implications for justice and community safety in Kambia.
