Mohamed Nabay has been sentenced to six months in prison by Magistrate Mamakoh Saio Kallon after being found guilty of stealing a wheelbarrow valued at NLe 3,000.
The sentencing took place at Pademba Road Court No. 7 in Freetown on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
The court heard that Nabay committed the theft on September 2, 2024, at ECOWAS Street in the western area of Freetown.
The wheelbarrow, belonging to Abubakar Bangura, was taken without consent, leading to the charge of larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. When the charge was read to Nabay, he immediately pleaded guilty.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor, Sergeant 9906 Umu Jalloh, confirmed that there were no prior criminal records against the accused. Nabay, in his plea for leniency, asked the court to show mercy.
Taking the mitigation into account, Magistrate Kallon handed down a six-month prison sentence, ordering Nabay to serve his time at the male correctional facility in Freetown.
