The Chairperson of the National Elections Watch, Marcella Samba, has alleged that she was subjected to technology-facilitated gender-based violence by a sitting Member of Parliament during a radio discussion.

According to Samba, the incident occurred on 2 March 2026 while the world was preparing to celebrate the achievements of women ahead of International Women’s Day. She stated that the MP appeared on Radio Democracy 98.1 FM and, with the support of two male participants, used the digital space to defame her character.

Samba claimed that the discussion exposed her to public ridicule and personal shaming, which she described as a form of technology-facilitated gender-based violence targeting women in leadership.

“This is technology-facilitated gender-based violence perpetrated by a sitting Member of Parliament,” she said, stressing that such actions constitute abuse and should be treated as a crime.

She further noted that many countries around the world are taking steps to address online attacks against women, particularly those in leadership positions, and called for stronger action to protect women from such forms of harassment.
