The Pujehun District Council has officially handed over the site and contractor for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Massam Kpanka Primary Health Unit (PHU), marking a major advancement in healthcare service delivery.
The project, implemented under the Accountable Governance for Basic Service Delivery (AGBSD) Project, aims to enhance healthcare accessibility in the community.
The handover ceremony brought together key officials, including the Works Engineer, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Environmental and Social Safety Officer, and Gender Specialist from the Pujehun District Council. They engaged with community members, youth, and local stakeholders to discuss the project’s scope and expected impact.
According to the Works Engineer, the rehabilitation will include refurbishing the existing PHU, installing roofing and tiling, and expanding the labor ward to incorporate Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities. Additionally, the facility will be equipped with solar lighting, and a two-bedroom duplex staff quarters will be built to improve accommodations for medical personnel.
As mandated by the World Bank, a community engagement session was held to discuss funding sources, the council’s role, and design components while addressing potential environmental and social risks. A key focus was the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), ensuring proper relocation arrangements for medical staff and patients before construction begins.
Community leaders and residents welcomed the initiative, emphasizing its significance in strengthening healthcare services.
