Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, accompanied by Cllr Agnes Marah and Cllr Mohamed Darboh, convened a meeting with local traders on Upper Howe Street in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on February 24th, 2024. The objective was to address congestion issues and enhance the trading environment through collaborative efforts.
During the meeting, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasized the importance of constructive engagement in addressing the challenges facing Upper Howe Street. She highlighted the need for effective measures to alleviate congestion while ensuring a conducive atmosphere for business activities.
Traders were given the opportunity to express their concerns and suggestions regarding various issues such as traffic congestion, pedestrian safety, waste management, and infrastructure improvements.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr reassured the traders of the value of their input and the city’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions through cooperation. Cllr Agnes Marah and Cllr Mohamed Darboh echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between local authorities and the business community.
Following extensive discussions, agreements were reached on actions to decongest Upper Howe Street and improve trading conditions. These include traffic management initiatives, waste disposal strategies, and infrastructure upgrades.
