Three men have been sentenced to a combined total of 15 years in prison after being convicted of breaking into a vehicle and stealing cash and personal items in Murray Town, Freetown.

The convicts – Joseph Bangura, 33, a footballer; Samuel Jallohson, 29, a businessman; and Mohamed Sesay, 27, a fisherman – were found guilty by Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1.

According to police reports presented in court, the incident occurred on Wednesday, 14 July 2025. The three men allegedly conspired with other unknown persons to break into a Honda CR-V5 vehicle bearing registration number AWD 825 while it was parked in Murray Town.

The prosecution told the court that the stolen items belonged to Gladys Nanilla Kamara. The items included cash amounting to US$3,861, which police said was equivalent to Le2,717,000, a Samsung mobile phone valued at Le1,000, a power bank worth Le4,990, an air phone, a pair of lens glasses, two service passport booklets, a computer bag, and other personal effects valued at Le132,724.

The accused persons were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny. After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, Magistrate Jah found all three defendants guilty on both counts.

Each of the three men was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. The court noted that the period they had already spent in custody was taken into consideration in arriving at the sentence.

The matter was prosecuted by the Sierra Leone Police, while the ruling was delivered at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 in Freetown.
