Sandra Lako, the Country Director of MercyShips Sierra Leone, has expressed her concerns regarding the issue of plastic waste that consistently washes up on the pristine shores of Sierra Leone.

She recently shared a video depicting the distressing sight of a significant amount of plastic waste littering the beautiful Bureh Beach, one of Sierra Leone’s finest coastal areas.

In light of this alarming situation, Sandra emphasizes the urgent need for improved waste management practices.

She raises the question of whether it is time to consider implementing a ban on plastic or exploring alternative solutions, particularly concerning the packaging of drinking water, commonly sold in plastic bags or bottles.
