The Local Unit Commander of the Mile 91 Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police, Michael JK Lagga led a team of other officers to the Kehklee Lakkoh Memorial Agricultural Secondary School in Rokimbie-Two village, Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom and the Christian Evangelical Secondary School in Masugbay village, Malal Chiefdom, all in the Northern District of Tonkolili On Monday the 22nd of July 2024.
The tour, according to LUC Lagga was to discourage school-going pupils from engaging in drug taking especially the deadly Kush drug that has ravaged the country’s youthful population since its emergence. The concerted efforts of everyone at the community level in ending early marriage and all other forms of gender based violence and child rights violations, the police commander said are among the reasons for his tour.
The team comprises DPC 15321 Kadiatu Patricia Kabba from the Criminal Investigations Department, PC 21650 Isha Newland, the Division’s Gender Focal Person and DPC 14392 Marah F.
At ROKINBIE, LUC Lagga spoke on Sexual Gender Base Violence, youth involvement in the intake of the deadly KUSH drug and the dangers they all pose to society.
In his welcome address, the Acting principal of the School, Samuel A.J Sesay appreciated the LUC and team for visiting the school and the community. As a school and community, Sesay said they are happy because the tour is not only timely but it is also important because it sensitizes all those present especially parents and the kids on the dangers of forcing children into early marriage and the taking of illegal drugs. He urged all those present to be message carriers so that others may also benefit.
At the Evangelical Secondary School in Masugbay, the LUC opened the facilitation with a proverb that: Education is a key to success but he emphasizes that it can only benefit those who value it. He briefed the gathering comprising parents and kids on the importance of education, and what education can do in transforming the human status and also encouraged parents to consider education as priority for their children.
“Keep close eyes on activities at home in order to avoid sexual abuse and other violence as schools are about to close,” the LUC warned.
DPC 14392 Marrah F, an investigator and head of Sexual Assault Syndicate from Family Support Unit of the Mile 91 Police Division spoke on the negative impact of rape. He sensitized parents and the kids that rape is an offense punishable by law. The Sierra Leone Police, Marrah said will always ensure that perpetrators of those offenses are punished.
Abdul Koroma, the proprietor of the Evangelical Secondary School in Masugbay and the entire community thank the LUC and his team. They all pledged to support the Sierra Leone Police in ensuring their Communities are always safe and secured.
