Military personnel, Victor Idrissa Swarray has testified in defence of the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court in Freetown.
Swarray was led in evidence by Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara. During the examination, he told Magistrate Mark Ngegba that he was on duty at the airport on the day the Mayor was in court for obstructing police and other related charges.
The witness told the court that it was during his time on duty that “some boys came to tell him that there was a bag on the floor owned by the Mayor.”
He said the information prompted him to inform Corporal Amadu who instructed him to take the bag to the Mayor who refused to collect the bag from him.
According to the witness, the Mayor received the said bag until she had an argument with the police.
During cross-examination by State lawyer, Yusuf Isaac Sesay, the military personnel said that the bag was handed to him by the mayor but was rather instructed by his boss to hand the bag to the mayor.
The witness told the magistrate that he could not tell what transpired at the airport police station because he was not there.
The mayor, who is on bail, will appear in court next week Tuesday 7 March as the matter continues.
