The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Henry Musa Kpaka, officially handed over a comprehensive suite of agricultural equipment and enterprise support to the Ma Nyande Women’s Development Organisation. On Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Supported by UN Women, this intervention marks a major step forward for the government’s flagship “Feed Salone” programme.
The initiative is designed to transition women-led farming from subsistence to commercially viable agribusiness, strengthening production and agro-processing across Sierra Leone.

The Ma Nyande Women’s Development Organisation represents over 1,250 women across three districts, a structured platform that enhances enterprise growth, productivity, and access to formal markets.
The support package were; tractors and mechanised equipment to expand cultivation; a feed mill supported by the International Labour Organization ILO to strengthen Livestock especially poultry, and aquaculture enterprises; and a rice mill from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to boost local processing capacity and value addition.
During the ceremony, Minister Kpaka reaffirmed he government’s commitment to empowering women as central drivers of agricultural transformation. He emphasized that strategic partnerships with UN Women and other agencies significantly strengthen cooperative structures, enhance productivity, and expand market access.

Beneficiaries at the event shared success stories from previous interventions, noting improved organizational capacity and stronger integration into structured markets. With this latest injection of technology and training, the Ma Nyande Organisation is now positioned to create new employment opportunities and supply high-quality produce to formal domestic and regional markets.
The handover ceremony brought together senior national and international leaders, including Setcheme Mongbo, Head of Office for UN Women Sierra Leone; Maxime Houinato, Regional Director for West and Central Africa, UN Women; and Seraphine Wakana, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone, alongside cabinet ministers and development partners.
