On October 11, 2023, the Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, Mr. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, along with a high-level delegation, embarked on a fact-finding mission to address labor welfare concerns at the Mackie Stores cement packaging and distribution factory, located at Ferry Junction, Freetown-Sierra Leone.
Accompanied by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Madam Fatmata Mustapha, and a team of Occupational Safety and Health Officers, the Minister’s visit comes in response to a series of complaints regarding laborers’ welfare at the cement factory.
The primary objective of the visit is to engage directly with the laborers, providing them an opportunity to voice their concerns and share their experiences. This hands-on approach by the Minister and his team aims to gain a firsthand understanding of the laborers’ working conditions, safety measures, and overall well-being.
