Court of Appeal Judge, presiding over 203 cases inside the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre, Honourable Justice Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens has sentenced 19 Accused Persons who were before the Magistrates’ Courts for both Summary Trials and Preliminary Investigations.

The presiding Judge also cautioned and discharged 9 others.

The purpose of the exercise among others is to increase access to Justice through expeditious trials and decongesting Correctional Centres across the country.

The Prison Court is also designed to review the work of Magistrates across the Country.

Accused Augustine Salia appeared before Justice Stevens and pleaded guilty to four counts of Burglary, Wounding with Intent, Wounding and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.

He was cautioned and discharged on counts 3 & 4 and sentenced to two years imprisonment each for counts 1 & 2.

Accused Christopher Cole who had two separate files for the offence of Store Breaking and Larceny, was cautioned and discharged for the offence of Store Breaking and Larceny brought up against him in one of the files but sentenced to 4 years for the second file which carried the offence of Larceny.

The Prison Courts is supported by the UNDP and will continue next Saturday, with more cases expected to be reviewed and determined speedily.
