The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development recently held a two-day review session at the Bo District Council Hall to assess the progress of the District Development Coordination Committee (DDCC) in the Southern Region since its establishment.

The session highlighted significant achievements, challenges, and strategies for enhancing the committee’s role in local governance and development.

Chief Administrator Vivian Sally Senesie of the Bo District Council commended the Ministry for its technical support, describing the DDCC as a vital structure for ensuring efficient service delivery and accountability.

Despite the committee’s successes, concerns were raised about uncooperative partners and poor reporting by some sectors on NGO support, which has led to resource mismanagement. Participants called for improved coordination and compliance measures to address these issues.

UNICEF’s Andrew T. Sellu emphasized the DDCC’s importance in ensuring community representation, while civil society activist Gerald A. Foday praised its role in promoting transparency.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Kenyeh Ballay reaffirmed her commitment to local development, urging constructive engagement and highlighting local councils as key drivers of rural transformation.

The DDCC, which meets bi-monthly, includes district stakeholders, NGOs, devolved sectors, MDAs, and council staff, ensuring local projects align with national goals and preventing duplication.

The review praised the Southern Region’s overall performance, with Bo District Council leading under Chairman Victor Korseh Hindowa and Vivian Sally Senesie. Several recommendations were proposed to sustain and strengthen the committee’s operations.

The DDCC remains a critical platform for fostering transparency, accountability, and inclusive development across the Southern Region.
