The mother of an underage girl is grieving and calling for justice after a man believed to be the official driver of a senior member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party in the Northern city of Makeni is Left to roam freely after a report was against him for allegedly penetrating a minor.

Instead of being brought to book for his alleged crime, the mother said the perpetrator is walking freely, which questions the seriousness of the law enforcement agencies in handling such serious matters.

According to Elineor Bangura, her daughter was sexually abused by one Samuel Gbla, the official driver of the regional coordinator of Free Quality Education in the Northeast region.

Abu Bakarr Jalloh, the coordinator and also a senior member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party in Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone, is said to be interfering into the matter thereby preventing his driver to face justice, according to the mother.

The mother said Jalloh is bragging that nothing will happen as far as he’s concerned because he’s politically connected.

Jalloh, the mother of the victim, said he has been using his political connections and influence to prevent his driver from facing justice for his actions.

The delay in bringing the driver to book after a month since the matter was reported was a result of what the mother says is Jalloh’s interference into the matter.

“This is not only frustrating and shameful but also exposes a system that is negatively affecting the less privileged in society,” the woman cried.

Coincidentally, two of Jalloh’s relatives are also suspects in the said matter. His sister and her daughter were earlier arrested and detained after the investigation implicated them as being the ones who secretly arranged or initiated the romantic relationship between the girl and the driver.

Immediately, he learned about their arrest, Abu Bakarr Jalloh ordered the release of his relatives, who later went home bragging, according to the mother.

Bangura said Gbla had been sexually abusing her daughter on diverse dates in November 2024 in her bedroom whenever she travelled out of the town and in one of the guesthouses.

In an interview with this reporter, the girl said she was introduced to the driver by one Haja, the sister of the coordinator, and her daughter Khadija – the two that were arrested.

They all stay together in the same house.

“We have had sexual intercourse in our bedroom and the other time inside one of the hotels,” the girl said.

During the investigation, the girl sent WhatsApp audio clips she confirmed to be their conversations with the driver to this reporter.

The audio clips are yet to be verified, but the girl alleges it was their conversations with the driver.

The mother learned about the incident during an altercation between her and the two relatives of Jalloh who referred to the victim as a prostitute during the argument.

“We were having an argument when they called my daughter a prostitute and they openly narrated how the driver had been sleeping with my daughter,” the mother said.

Having learned about this, she reported the matter at the Family Support Unit of the Mena Police Station on 20th December 2024 at around 14:05 hours.

The girl, the mother said, was seventeen when the driver was sexually penetrating her.

She said it’s more than a month now since she reported the matter to the police and nothing is being done to ensure the alleged perpetrator faces justice.

Instead, the mother said the SLPP politician has been threatening her and her daughter.

When contacted over the phone, Jalloh denied the allegations referring to them as untrue. In fact, he said he had never met the victim and her mother.

His only anger, the regional coordinator, said was the unlawful arrest and detention of his relatives for an offence they did commit.

Since the incident allegedly happened, the coordinator said he has stopped his driver from going to work to allow the investigation to go on.

The Northeast region spokesman for the Sierra Leone Police was reached over the phone, but Sgt John Abass Kamara has not responded.

This is a developing story, and more details will be reported.
