A mother has testified in court against her own son, who is accused of brutally killing his sibling following a tragic turn of events. The hearing took place at Pademba Road Court No. 1, presided over by Magistrate Sahr Kekura.

The accused, Santige Kamara, is charged with murder under Section 1 of the Offenses Against the Person Act of 1861, as amended by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act of 2021 (Act No. 6 of 2022).

According to the prosecution, Kamara murdered his brother, Francis Amara Kanneh, on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 555 Lorry Park in the Waterloo area of Freetown.

The accused’s mother, Kadiatu Carew, a businesswoman, provided an emotional testimony about the events leading up to the tragic incident.

Carew stated that the deceased, her biological son, had been feeling unwell when Kamara visited him at home earlier that day. After spending a brief time together, Kamara left, and Carew went about her daily activities.

Later that evening, she received a call from an unidentified number informing her of her son’s death. She immediately contacted her eldest brother, Abu White, to verify the news. White confirmed that Kanneh’s body had been taken to the mortuary.

Shortly afterward, police arrived and took Carew to the Ross Road Police Station for questioning before accompanying her to the mortuary, where her son’s remains were officially handed over to her.

The court proceedings are set to continue on March 14, 2025, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.

This case has drawn significant public attention due to its emotional weight, as a grieving mother finds herself testifying against her own son, underscoring the profound human tragedy at its core.
