Land owners in the seven mining communities in Lower Banta Chiefdom Moyamba District had requested immediate stop in operations and removal of Furabay Mining Company’s properties out of their land.

In a letter dated 30th July, 2025 addressed the Office of the National Security (ONS) Sierra Rutile branch, copied the Resident Minister Southern Province, National Minirals Agency (NMA) Southern Province, LUC Moriba Town Division, and the Paramount Chief Lower Banta Chiefdom Moyamba District allegedly claimed the agreement between Furabay Mining Company was signed and recorded for a Small Scale Mining activities and had expired since November 2024, making the company illegal occupants and miners in their communities.

The seven mining communities are therefore, for the sake of peace and fair treatment asking for immediate stop of activities of the Furabay Mining Company until a reassessment of the seven communities and a formal signing of a new agreement between the company and the seven communities including an immediate payment of the surface rent covering November 2024 to July 2025 plus a compensation to the communities for carrying out mining activities in the land without legal agreement binding the communities and the company and by extension, asking the National Minerals Agency a withdrawal of the large scale mining license from Furabay Mining Company alleged to have been obtained on false pretense.

The communities referenced a letter written to the Office of National Security (ONS) dated 15th July, 2025 “We informed you that as a community we feel betrayed and defrauded by the Furabay Mining Company who had since November 2024 changed their mandates from a small scale mining to large scale mining using falsified agreement document to complete their registration as large scale mining company”. The communities alleged.
