Hon. Rosemarie Bangura, a lawmaker from the Northern District of Tonkolili has on the 28th and 29th April 2024 disbursed the sum of of seventy thousand Leones to women farmers from six chiefdoms.
The cash is for the women to engage in farming activities in their respective Chiefdoms and communities.
The donation was done in Mabonto and Bumbuna towns and beneficiaries are drawn from various farming groups in Simiria, Kafe, Kholifa Rowalla, Dasogoia, Sambaia and Kalanthuba Chiefdoms – all of Tonkolili District.
Delivering the cash to the heads of the various Group leaders, Hon Rosemarie Bangura called on the women farmers to be serious in agriculture to feed themselves and their subordinates. Agriculture, the opposition lawmaker says is the backbone of the country and she urged her constituents to take farming serious.
The monies, she said will help the women to engage in groundnut cultivation. She assured them of her support in making sure the project benefit the larger community. Hon. Bangura urged the women farmers to use the money for it intended purpose.
“This is not time for politics and I called on you all to be focus,” the APC MP stated.
During the presentation of the cash, the women expressed satisfaction and lavished praises on the Member of Parliament whom they described as a God sent.
Mary Hallowel, Simiria Chiefdom Chairlady says the day is historic because it’s the first time a politician from the area makes such a marvelous move aiming at empowering and emancipating women from the shackles of poverty.
She urged the women farmers in Simiria and the other chiefdoms to use the money wisely for sustainable development.
Several stakeholders present made meaningful statements during the occasion. All of the speakers thanked the lawmaker for remembering and priortizing her people at a time they’re in dire need of the money to do their farming activities.
