Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has responded to recent public reports concerning claims made by a former staff member in Kenema, alleging mistreatment and unfair dismissal.

MSF has reassured the public that the organization has adhered to both Sierra Leone’s labor laws and its own internal policies throughout the case.

In a statement, MSF highlighted that the Ministry of Labour and Social Security’s branch office in Kenema had already reviewed the matter in 2023 and concluded that MSF had complied with the relevant labor laws and the employee’s contract.

The organization remains engaged with the case and is working closely with local authorities. However, due to the sensitive nature of the issue, MSF has stated that it will refrain from further public comment.

MSF emphasized its long-standing commitment to providing healthcare in Sierra Leone, having operated in the country since 1986.

The organization continues to offer free medical services to local communities, including its staff and their dependents, in accordance with its internal health policy.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, MSF is currently focused on providing free healthcare for children under five, pregnant women, and lactating mothers in Kenema and Tonkolili districts. In Bombali district, the organization is working to improve access to tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment.

MSF’s statement underscores its dedication to both its employees and the communities it serves, affirming that it will continue to address the case with the sensitivity and attention it requires.
