In a bid to inform and engage the local community about its activities the Ndo Gbohmei SL (Help for a Child) organization on Saturday 6th July 2024 held a stakeholders meeting in Potoru town Barrie Chiefdom pujehun district. The community-base development organization, established in 2024, aims to improve child poverty, empower rural women, and support marginalized children in the Barri Chiefdom.

The meeting was chaired by Morris M.K. Rogers, who welcomed the visiting team and highlighted the meaning and purpose behind the name “Ndo Gbohmei,” which translates to “help for a child” in the local language.

Rogers stated that the organization will help alleviate the hardships and bondage faced by single mothers in the chiefdom, describing it as a “blessing in disguise” for the community.

Councilors from the area, Haja Galiwa Dukulay Magona, expressed their happiness and gratitude for the organization’s intervention, which they believe will improve the socioeconomic situation of women in the chiefdom. Magona praised the founders, Mr. and Mrs. Sheaku Shiaka  Magona, for their timely and impactful initiative.

Women’s Leader from the Barri Chiefdom, Kadijatu Kamara, revealed that 85% of women in the chiefdom are vulnerable. She lauded the pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. Sheaku Shiaka Magona (known as “Borbor Lagor”), for their generosity and commitment to giving back to their community. Madam Kamara believes the organization will help alleviate the stress, bondage, and frustration that women in the chiefdom have faced, empowering them to become self-reliant and providing their children with the necessary support through Agriculture and livelihood.

During the event, the consultant Manager, Mohamed F. Magbie, provided an overview of the organization’s mission and vision. He explained that Ndo Gbohmei is a child-centered community-base development organization aimed at improving child poverty, empowering rural women, and supporting deprived, excluded, and vulnerable children. The organization’s goal is to help these children develop the capacity to improve their lives and become positive, influential leaders in their communities.

The presentation covered topics such as basic understanding of child sponsorship and the difference between child protection and safeguarding. The event concluded with the introduction of the organization’s executive team to the attendees.

The Ndo Gbohmei SL (Help for a Child) stakeholder’s engagement meeting in Potoru Town was a significant step in informing and involving the local community in the organization’s efforts to create positive and lasting changes for children and families in the Barri Chiefdom.
