A Nigerian national, Charles Udom, was remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown on Friday, August 8, 2025, following his appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah on four counts of drug-related offenses.

The charges include collecting, transporting, dealing in, and possessing a prohibited drug without lawful authority, as stipulated under the National Drug Control Act of 2008.

According to report from A-Z Newspaper, the allegations against arise from an incident on March 23, 2025, at Freetown International Airport, Lungi.

According to the police charge sheet, it was reported that Udom allegedly collected 25 pellets of cocaine, which were seized from him. He is also accused of transporting and dealing in the drug at the airport.

During the court session, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sorie Conteh presented testimony from forensic analyst Joseph Stevens. Stevens reported that he conducted a chemical analysis of the seized substance, confirming it was cocaine hydrochloride. The analysis was performed in Udom’s presence, and the results were documented in a report submitted to the police.

Defence Counsel A.H. Navo requested the adoption of previous bail conditions for Udom. However, Magistrate Fornah denied the bail application, citing the serious nature of the charges. The case has been adjourned to August 18, 2025, for further proceedings.
