In a bid to strengthen its community engagement and support local education, the Nectar Sierra Leone Bulk Terminal (NSBT) has donated standard chairs and tables to the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood (SLMB) Masjid-Ul-Hassanine Primary School, located on Race Course Road, Cline Town, Freetown.

The donation, made on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, is part of NSBT’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the educational sector and improve learning environments in the community.

During the handover ceremony, NSBT General Manager, Mrs. Siamba Kamara, emphasized the company’s dedication to education and its mission to foster a better learning atmosphere for children.

She explained that the newly built desks and chairs demonstrate NSBT’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education in Sierra Leone. “By providing these essential learning tools, we are reaffirming our role in supporting the development of our future leaders,” Mrs. Kamara stated.

She further praised the teachers for their tireless efforts in nurturing the students, adding, “We are inspired by your dedication and will continue to support you.”

Mrs. Kamara also highlighted NSBT’s long-standing relationship with the school, pointing out that the company had previously constructed the very building the students currently occupy. She reassured the school community that NSBT is committed to improving the lives and learning conditions of children in the area, both now and in the future.

The principal of the SLMB Primary School expressed his gratitude to NSBT for their continued support, acknowledging the challenges the school faces. He mentioned that many children attend classes in dire conditions, including wearing broken shoes, and called on NSBT to continue its invaluable assistance. “Your commitment to our school and community means a lot to us, especially as we are one of the most deprived communities,” he noted.

Mr. Lamina Mana Kargbo, NSBT’s Head of Safety and Environment, reiterated the company’s dedication to community development, stating that this was not the first time NSBT had extended support to the school, nor would it be the last. He recalled previous donations of books and learning materials, as well as NSBT’s significant role in constructing the school building in 2016.

NSBT has a well-documented history of community development initiatives. The company has made significant contributions to the Kanike community, where it built a six-classroom facility and a police station. NSBT has also constructed two boreholes for the Cline Town community and provided toilet facilities for Bishop Crowther School. Additionally, NSBT sponsored 11 children at the Freetown Cheshire Home for a three-year period and donated a fire engine to the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbour Authority.

Currently, NSBT is engaged in the Berth Extension Project at the Sierra Leone Port in Cline Town, Freetown. The project involves constructing a new 190-meter deep-water berth and expanding the quay space to accommodate larger vessels at the Queen Elizabeth II terminal. These upgrades are part of NSBT’s broader mission to meet international standards in port operations and further enhance the economic prospects of Sierra Leone. Since winning the government tender in 2014, NSBT has continuously invested in equipment, infrastructure, and logistics to support the country’s growth.

As the Berth Extension Project progresses, NSBT remains dedicated to ensuring that the benefits extend beyond commercial success, positively impacting the local community and education sectors.
