The National Youth Awareness Forum (NYAF), led by District Supervisor Mr. Samuel Taylor, held a crucial dialogue with school heads and community stakeholders in Njala Mokonde, Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District.

The meeting aimed to address pressing challenges faced by school-going pupils in the district.

The gathering included representatives from the University International School, U.M.C School Mokonde, as well as local leaders such as the Town Chief, youth leaders, an Imam, and a Pastor. Mr. Taylor emphasized the shared responsibility of community members in safeguarding children’s education.

Mr. Taylor highlighted NYAF’s commitment to the Sierra Leone Education Innovation Challenge (SLEIC) project. He stated that their efforts extend beyond classroom support and teaching materials; they also focus on community engagement. “Education is a collaborative effort that involves both schools and the community,” he noted.

During the discussion, several critical challenges affecting children’s education were identified, including early marriage for girls, a lack of parental support in the first week of school, and children attending school on an empty stomach.

Mr. Taylor stressed the importance of building teachers’ capacities while also addressing issues at home. He called for collective action from all community members to ensure that children receive the quality education they deserve.

Concluding his remarks, Mr. Taylor urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, stating, “Children have the right to go to school, and it is the duty of every parent to ensure they receive a better quality education.” As the academic year progresses, he encouraged families to send their children to school consistently.
