In an exclusive interview with various bike Riders at the Metchem Junction on the condition of the road they ply on daily basis, they expressed deep dissatisfaction over the bad condition of the road leading to upper Metchem, Kailahun Court Barry, Baioma and Dodo, all in the Western Part of Freetown.

According to them, the road is very bad that some of bike riders have lost their lives, while others sustained serious injuries on their legs and various parts of their body during road accidents. This is because of the bad road condition they claimed.

Speaking to Amara Kallon, a bike rider along the route, he said that the road before now was better; adding that when the construction of the said road was awarded to a company called Eacon and the company started work, the road eventually went bad.

He went on that since the company started construction work several months ago the people living within that environs had suffered a lot economically, thereby placing more suffering on them.

He called on the government of president Julius Maada Bio, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, authorities at the Ministry of Works to quickly intervene so as to alleviate the suffering of the people living in that part of the city.

On his part, Mohamed Lamin Kargbo said that, the road is always used by several government officials currently living in those communities, but that they don’t care since they have vehicles to ply the road. He registered that they always blamed the government of president Julius Maada Bio because government officials appointed by the president are not ready to sacrifice for the development of their communities.

He continued that at one point he was fortunate to speak to the current Member of Parliament representing Constituency 109, Honorable Jalloh about the development of Kailahun Court Barry.

Lawmaker responded that Kailahun Court Barry has several government appointees who are more senior in their political party than him to initiate development for that community.

Speaking to Hawa Nallo, a business woman in that community informed this press that, as a woman and a mother taking care of three children, she sufferers a lot economically.

She said that she always pay twenty thousand Leones (Le 20,000) everyday from Monday to Saturday, and during school hours, she also pay for her children for them to go school. She said that it is a big burden for her and all other parents in that community, stressing that if the road is in good form that burden will reduced drastically. She noted that several people have lost their lives because of the bad road conditions.

She used the opportunity to call on the authorities to join hands resolve the problem for once and for all. All efforts made by this press to speak to the CEO of Eacon Construction Company proved futile.
